When one specifies the word chaise lounge, the first thing that generally comes into mind is comfort. Also familiar in its applicable French term chaise lounge or long settee, the chaise lounge is a special stuffed couch shaped like a chair that is long enough to assist the legs of the inhabitant. With its composition, the chaise lounge is flawless for those long summer days where you can catch a quick snooze without having to go to the bedroom. In addition, chaise lounges can also be fashionable as well as satisfying, as these couches have long been the art of designers especially during the 20th century. One such excellent example of a stylish 20th century lounge chair is the Le Corbusier Chaise Lounge LC4.

Deemed to be one the most popular Le Corbusier furniture designs, the Le Corbusier Chaise Lounge LC4 is a lounge chair as [spinaccessory|decor|fixture[/spin] for the villa in the Ville d’Avray commune in Paris. It was crafted by the renowned Swiss-French architect and designer Le Corbusier, who was known for manufacturing furnishings and architectures that are both ergonomic and minimalist in nature. The chaise lounge was then presented in public for the first time at the Salon D’ Automne in 1929, where it had a very good reception.

To further affirm its minimalist nature, the Le Corbusier Chaise Lounge LC4 is made up primarily of only two materials: metal and leather. Tubular steel plated with a layer of chrome composes the frame of the chaise lounge, and the pad is enclosed with rich grain leather. Some high-end versions of the LC4 have outstanding leather that is considered aniline, enhancing its properties. Also, the chaise lounge was usually made either in black or pony hide, but modern recopies of the chaise lounge come in many distinct colors and styles. Cheaper reproductions of the Le Corbusier LC4 replace the leather with fabric.

Another important feature of the Le Corbusier Chaise Lounge LC4 is that it can be balanced by moving the whole element of the seat within its separate support frame. And to guarantee quality, LC4 couches are worked almost fully by hand, including the chroming process and the furbishing. The welds are also ground to accurate smoothness and skilled before it is chrome-plated. Rubber straps are also added for extra support as well as make the whole structure more sturdy. And to endure wear from frequent use, the upholstery is supported by double edge stitching and welting on the mat.
